Infections with sexually transmitted pathogens (STI), in particular Chlamydia trachomatis, Neisseria gonorrhoeae, Mycoplasma, Ureaplasma and Trichomonas, often lead to inflammation of the urogenital tract. They may ascend and eventually lead to infertility. Some pathogens, such as Treponema pallidum, can spread in the whole subject body and lead to a generalized infection and even to death.
