Specific fluorescence patterns observed during antinuclear antibody (ANA) testing on HEp-2 cells can provide valuable information to aid in the diagnosis of autoimmune rheumatic diseases. Different ANA patterns are often associated with distinct target antigens and clinical manifestations. Standardized reporting guidelines for ANA testing results are essential for ensuring accurate communication and interpretation of test findings. In 2021, the International Consensus on Antinuclear Antibody Patterns (ICAP) released guidelines for the reporting of HEp-2 IFA results. These guidelines provide a framework for ANA test reports, including recommendations regarding pattern nomenclature, screening dilutions, and end point titers.
